Rewind Technique for Trauma, PTSD and Phobias

The Rewind Technique is a gentle and effective approach for processing and recovering from PTSD, traumatic experiences, phobias, or distressing memories.  Unlike some methods, it does not require you to talk about painful experiences in detail.  Instead, it helps the brain safely 're-file' memories so they no longer feel as though they are happening now, without needing to share the specifics of your memory out loud if you do not wish to.  Hence the treatment is known as 'closure without disclosure'.  Many people notice significant relief in just a few sessions.

How does the Rewind Technique work?

When we experience trauma, the brain can sometimes store the memory in a way that leaves it feeling 'live' - as though it is still happening.  This can lead to flashbacks and nightmares, anxiety and hyper-vigilance, avoidance of certain places, people or situations.

The Rewind Technique helps the brain to 're-file' the memory so it no longer triggers the same intense emotional or physical response.  You will still remember what happened, but it will feel like it belongs in the past.

What are the benefits of the Rewind Technique?

  • Effective - often brings relief from PTSD, phobias, and trauma-related difficulties after just one or two sessions.
  • Non-intrusive - no need to share details of your trauma unless you choose to.
  • Gentle - does not require re-living the trauma.
  • Empowering - restores a sense of calm, control and safety.
